Stunning, breathtaking, otherworldly: these are just a few words that come to mind when I describe Belmond Cap Juluca to my clients. One of the Caribbean’s most beloved and iconic hotels, this legendary property reopened its doors last winter after a change in ownership and major recovery effort from 2017’s devastating hurricane season. I recently visited to see the enhancements firsthand.
My first visit to Cap Juluca was 15 years ago, and from that moment on, I knew it was one of the Caribbean’s most special properties and certainly a personal favorite. The setting is like something out of a fairytale and brings guests back year after year, including me who has now been a number of times and can’t wait to go back!
Belmond (formerly Orient Express) acquired the hotel shortly before Hurricane Irma struck the island in September 2017, and fortunately the renovations hadn’t begun. Post-hurricane, Belmond immediately began enhancing the property, and the results are magnificent. A much needed oceanfront pool and new spa are just the beginning. Completely reconfigured rooms and suites, new dining venues, and reimagined public areas round out the impressive improvements.
All of this being said, the unique vibe and feel of the original Cap Juluca has been wisely kept intact. Located on famous Maunday’s Bay, recently voted by Conde Nast Traveler readers as the best beach in the world, the Moorish inspired architecture of this special hotel wows guests upon arrival. The mile-long crescent of soft sand and clear blue water right out front just top off the idyllic setting.
Beyond the amazing rooms and beach is the food and service, which is top notch across the board. The staff is warm and friendly, yet so polished and professional in the true Belmond way. Regarding dining, the new beachside “Cap Shack” stood out to me as a particularly exciting new enhancement. Sipping on artisan rum punches and noshing on tapas with your toes in the sand and reggae in the background = Caribbean nirvana.
My firm is part of Belmond’s preferred Bellini Club, which means I’m able to add the following complimentary amenities to my clients’ reservations:
- Full breakfast daily for two per room
- $90.00 resort credit per room
- VIP welcome with a local taste
- Complimentary upgrade based on availability at time of check-in
