As I sit under a warm blanket here in Virginia in the midst of a blizzard, my mind wanders back to my wonderful (and warm!!!) week in St. Lucia just a few short months ago. While I was there, I spent some time at famous Sugar Beach, one of my top sellers and one of the Caribbean’s most luxurious and picturesque properties.
Formerly known as Jalousie Plantation, Viceroy Hotel Group purchased the property a few years ago and completely transformed it as part of a massive, $100 million renovation. The rebranded hotel quickly made a name for itself and has been voted as one of the Caribbean’s top hotels time and again by consumers and industry insiders since inception.
Aside from the stunning setting between St. Lucia’s famous Piton Mountains, what makes Sugar Beach so special are the accommodations. In particular, I’m a fan of their secluded villa suites which dot the lush hillside. They offer the utmost in luxury and privacy – gorgeous (white and breezy) decor, spacious layouts, plunge pools, beautiful views and personalized butler service of course! I can think of no better place to celebrate a honeymoon or anniversary.
But I don’t just send couples to this hotel. The larger villa suites comfortably accommodate families, as do the newer residences which have anywhere between two and four bedrooms. Because of the sprawling nature of the property (over 190 acres), couples and families alike can exist in harmony with everyone enjoying themselves and having plenty of space to spread out. Speaking of which, Sugar Beach’s famous “tuk tuks” pictured below will take you anywhere you want to go on property!
Aside from the luxurious accommodations, what sets Sugar Beach apart is its beach. On an island where white sand beaches can be hard to come by, Sugar Beach’s spectacular stretch of coastline will not disappoint even the pickiest of beach-goers. A large array of watersports are available for guests’ enjoyment, along with world class snorkeling right off shore and a full PADI dive facility for the more adventurous.
I would be remiss not to mention the fine dining on property (3 restaurants offering a wide range of options) and the super cool Rainforest Spa which has a jungle setting up in the hillside. Spa-goers will love the whole experience, which starts upon entering a long passageway that leads to a series of tree-house style treatment rooms. It is quite a setting!
Sugar Beach is a Virtuoso property, which means my clients receive the following complimentary amenities if I make their arrangements:
- Full breakfast for two per room daily
- $100 resort credit per stay
- Upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability
- Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
