I was recently invited to stay at one of the Caribbean’s most highly regarded boutique hotels, Cobblers Cove. Tucked away on Barbados’s tranquil west coast, this family owned and operated property is a delightful hideaway blending English country-house elegance with relaxed Caribbean charm. My group from Brownell Travel was definitely impressed!

Setting and accommodations: Centered around a coral-stone Great House built in the 1940s, Cobblers Cove opens onto lush tropical gardens filled flowers, birds and the occasional monkey. The forty well-appointed suites, decorated in soft pastels with rattan furnishings and plantation shutters, have either private balconies or terraces perfect for enjoying early morning coffee. I adored the vibe.

Guest experience: The Great House at Cobblers Cove is the heartbeat of the hotel and where I spent most of my time. Whether lounging by the oceanside pool, enjoying a yummy mocktail, or dining at the ocean’s edge in their open-air restaurant Camelot, I was one happy camper. Evenings brought live music, tasty food and drink, candle-lit tables, and guests mingling over nightcaps at the bar. Cobblers Cove is a hotel for travelers who enjoy old-world Caribbean boutique hotels and slower pace.

Food and service: I give Cobblers Cove a 10 out of 10. The creative and island-inspired menu changes daily and never disappointed. It was delivered with a smile every time, which sums up the service at the hotel. The team at Cobblers Cove is tenured, personable and attentive – a huge asset in a part of the world where service can be hit or miss.

What about activities? While Cobblers Cove is a relatively quiet place, off-property experiences abound and are easy to arrange through the hotel concierge. I enjoyed snorkeling, a beach picnic, and paying a visit to the historical St. Nicholas Abbey during my stay. Dining off property for a few lunches and dinners was also a lot of fun, as Barbados is known for having a large number of very good local restaurants.
