From Katherine – read ahead for a fantastic post written my Sr. Travel Coordinator Mary Bradley!
I recently visited the St. Regis Deer Valley for a quick get-away with one of my sisters. A year-round destination, the hotel sits atop the Wasatch mountains and appeals to ski bums and outdoor/spa enthusiasts alike Featuring a recently-renovated lobby and large outdoor patio space, it offers a contemporary, yet tasteful vibe both couples and families are sure to find attractive and comfortable. After checking in, we headed towards the back patio where the slopes are literally at your back door. We arrived just in time for s’mores, toasted on the open coals with Reeses as an added bonus!
The guest rooms are a classy cross between elegance and rustic luxury, featuring either slope-side or valley views and soaking tub, perfect after a long day spent on the slopes. Not all rooms include fireplaces so be sure to ask about that if interested, especially during those chillier winter months. The Deluxe suites can connect as well to form 2, 3 and 4 bedroom accommodations for larger travel groups. When walking the halls, you’ll notice the wallpaper pays homage to Main Street featuring the trolley that carried visitors up and down the streets.
For guests who prefer less ski and more relaxation, Remède Spa is 14,000-square-foot facility with 11 treatment rooms and is just a flight of stairs away. It includes an indoor pool that flows outdoors so you can say you did an outdoor activity! (and don’t forget the spa is also a great après-ski spot for skiers too)
My favorite aspect was the heated pool located at the base of the slopes. Guests can pop off their skis, throw on a suit (there are adjacent changing rooms) to warm up in the many soaking pools. There are even outdoor saunas to help ease the transition out of the pool.
One of the most interesting feature of Deer Valley is the funicular – one of two in the country. The St. Regis sits on top of a mountain; on one side is Deer Valley and the other is downtown Park City. Below as well is the award-winning Deer Valley ski school. Guests can take the funicular down and dropped right at the ski school, just within a mile of downtown.
Deer Valley is a ski destination surrounded by greens ideal for beginners, but if you are looking for a more challenging run, there are plenty of expert slopes for you gnar-shredders. Once the slopes have been exhausted, there are many other activities to experience in the area: ice skating, sleigh rides, snow tubing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing just to name a few. Park City is also home to the Utah Olympic Park where you may find athletes training for the next Olympic games.
Though Deer Valley is a winter paradise for many, the summers don’t lack activity options. Hiking, horseback riding, and hot air balloon rides are just a few options for enjoying the warmer weather months. My sister and I particularly enjoyed strolling the streets of historic Park City, and the St. Regis drivers were ready to pick us up when it was time to return to our cozy room and turn up the fireplace. A visit to the St. Regis should be on your list!
